Guide to Better Writing

I was looking around this week for something interesting to write about and something that someone could use for their future. Of course, this task is made extremely tough because there is a Soccer World Cup going on outside our doorstep. And then there is the cold factor which makes sitting at a PC, and a soccer game, a bit tougher as your hands go to ice within a few minutes and your body soon after.

But I was able to stumble upon a very useful piece of writing that made a lot of sense and would definitely be able to help you in the future. It also got me thinking as it is a skill that is quite important and yet we hardly ever think about it and many times we don’t do it either. I am talking about proof reading.

Proof reading is simply reading your work and looking for mistakes and correcting them. It is quite a simple process, especially if you write a paragraph or two and then check it. This process is made even easier as there are generally spell checks that point out your errors and even autocorrect, which fixes your errors without you even knowing. (more…)

Failing to Prepare

“If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail”

That is a quote that I first saw in primary school in one of the teachers classrooms. At the time the quote had very little meaning or significance to me. I managed to pass through primary school fairly easily, with only Afrikaans threatening to hold me back (A trend that continued until matric).

That quote surfaced again a few times in high school but it was only at University that I really began to appreciate the quote. Or in my case, be the quote. I started my first year the same as I did school and I know most people do this as I have spoken to many students in my time. You don’t know any different so why change anything, right? Well as it turns out, you do have to change (adapt) or you will find yourself struggling. (more…)
